Gautama (otherwise known as the Supreme Buddha, or simply the Buddha) is depicted in a meditative state with the left hand in a vitarka mudra position. Mudra is a ritual gesture; vitarka is a mudra symbolizing discussion and debate. The panel is carved from a solid piece of wood but divided into three sections lengthwise for ease of hanging and moving.
This line of wooden wall decor is handmade from Monkey Pod, which comes from very plentiful tree species in South East Asia. Each piece is finished with all natural, non-toxic oils, making them safe for any area of the home and non-damaging to the environment. All of these products were hand-carved and finished by local Chiang Mai, Thailand artisans.
NOTE: No two natural wood products are the same! Our wood products may have different variations in tone, small cracks that are sanded and finished, knots or other slight imperfections. This is a result of them being hand-picked and hand-carved pieces so every single one is unique. Product Care: Monkey Pod is a durable wood, so it can survive outdoors if properly finished and in a covered area. We recommend tung or teak oil, as they're eco-friendly and naturally water resistant. While direct sunlight can cause more cracking on the ends of Monkey Pod wood, you can rub a natural wood oil to seal it and preserve its natural beauty.
