Bamboo Information

Overview: Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on planet Earth. Actually a member of the grass family, bamboo is super sustainable. It can grow up to four feet a day, making it highly abundant and able to replenish itself. Bamboo is also very versatile. It can be used for construction and hard floors as well as the creation of soft fabrics. At Verde Lifestyles, we carry several bamboo rugs which are made of a more durable and highly functional bamboo. Read on to find out more about bamboo's origins, products and decorating ideas!

Sourcing and Processing: Bamboo is harvested at its peak strength, which is typically reached at three to seven years. It is also cut when the sap sugar levels are lowest because high sugar increases pest infestation and weakening of products. Once cut, the bamboo goes through a process called leaching. During leaching, sap is removed from the stalk and it is then allowed to dry. It is then processed similar to hemp. The died stalks are crushed which allows its fibers to be combed out. The fibers can then be used in the production of fabrics and yarns. The bamboo is then shipped to distributors, where it is purchased and turned into your environmentally products!

Products and Decoration: Bamboo can be used in many products. Some of the most popular are construction, textiles, musical instruments, water processing, and even transportation. Bamboo rugs are especially popular because they're light, easy to clean and look beautiful in just about any setting. They're also great for picnics! Another decorating tip for these rugs is to pair them with one of our beautiful, handmade wooden furniture pieces. No matter what room you plan on decorating, bamboo products can certainly spice it up!

End of Product Life-Cycle: We highly recommend reusing all products after their life-cycle. Our beautiful bamboo rugs, although durable and of only the highest quality, will eventually fade. You can get creative by placing them over canvas for a decorative piece of wall art, make a picture frame or use them outside for your pet. No matter what the product, you can always donate it. Whether it has outlived its life-expectancy, has outgrown its appeal or has simply been replaced, there is someone out there who would cherish it and give it a new home!
